Report: Sunny Deol joins hands with Farhan Akhtar for a big-budget action thriller

Sunny Deol has an interesting slate of films lined up. After Jaat this year, he will be seen in Lahore 1947, Border 2 and Ramayana. Amid this, we are getting to know that he has come on board for yet another exciting project. As per reports, the actor has collaborated with Excel Entertainment for the first time.

As per our source, “Sunny Deol is set to team up with Excel Entertainment for the first time on a big-budget action thriller. The yet untitled action thriller will mark the first collaboration between Sunny Deol and Excel Entertainment. The two stakeholders have been in talks for a while now and are excited to collaborate on a high-concept big-budget action thriller. Sunny loves the script and is excited to partner with Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani on the film.”

The film will also mark the directorial debut of Balaji, known for working on Tamil blockbusters as an assistant and associate director.

It is touted to be a larger-than-life feature film, which will see the actor in an avatar that the audience loves to see him in. The source continued, “Excel, too, is going all out to ensure that their maiden collaboration with Sunny turns out to be a special treat for the cinema-going audience, with a lot of intense and high-on-drama moments.” An official announcement is awaited from the makers, and the casting for other characters is also underway.

Meanwhile, Sunny Deol is working on Border 2, helmed by director Anurag Singh. It is set to hit screens on January 23, 2026. While the film continues the legacy of Deol’s Border (1997), known for its ensemble of celebrated actors and patriotic fervour, it is carving its own path by blending scale with sincerity, both in its narrative and its casting choices. The filming will reportedly kick off in December.

Talking of Farhan Akhtar’s Excel, the production house is working on films such as 120 Bahadur, Mirzapur: The Movie and Don 3.
