Exclusive: Shruti Haasan says she wanted to quit acting after her Bollywood debut
Bollywood actress Shruti Haasan is known for her versatility and range in films. With a career spanning over a decade, she has done a plethora of films from different genres over time. Although, her journey in films was not without its bumps. In a recent chat during the show In The Ring with Filmfare, Shruti Haasan shared her candid thoughts about her Bollywood debut. She revealed that her first film was a huge disappointment, and she did not plan to continue acting after that. “I had a smashing disaster for a debut, and I was waiting after that,” she said.

Shruti had other plans before her acting career took off. She said, “I will collect enough money and move out and go back to Rock and Roll Baby.” However, she got a second chance and decided to take acting seriously. Her friend Krishnan played a significant role in her decision. Krishnan bluntly told her, “Macha that was terrible, you were terrible in it. Either you do it properly or you don’t do it.” These words made Shruti reflect on her passion for cinema and acting. She realized she had wasted an opportunity and took it upon herself to improve.
Over time, Shruti developed a love for acting. She compared it to finding true love, saying, “True love happens as you’re walking by.” With dedication and hard work, she aims to prove herself as a talented actress. Despite a rocky start, Shruti is determined to make the most of her second chance in the film industry and has done a range of films like Ramaiya Vastavaiya, D-Day, Gabbar Is Back, and Devi.
Shruti will next appear in three Tamil films – Coolie opposite Rajnikanth, Train opposite Vijay Sethupathi and Jana Nayagan opposite Vijay, and the Telugu film Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam opposite Prabhas.
