Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana Producer Says The West Will Surely Be Impressed With The Film

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and starring Ranbir Kapoor and Yash in leading roles, Ramayana is poised to be the most expensive Indian film produced to date. Produced by Namit Malhotra of Prime Focus Studios, this two-part epic is estimated to have a combined budget of Rs 4,000 crore. With a cast of renowned actors, international collaborations, and advanced technology, Namit hopes to showcase Indian mythology on the global cinematic stage.

In his recent interview with the LA Times, Namit expressed his intention for the film to achieve international recognition. He said, “It’s a global film from the day we start. I’m not trying to make it to appease Indian people in India… If you go and watch Ramayana and your family watches it, and people in India watch it, what’s the difference? It should speak to you like any other film.”

Namit mentioned that Ramayana is being designed in a way to appeal to a wide audience, including both those who hold religious beliefs and those who do not, with the intention of surpassing religious or cultural limitations. He also made striking comparisons to prominent Hollywood productions such as Avatar, Gladiator, and the films of Christopher Nolan, saying that, “In my mind, if people in the West don’t like it, I consider that a failure. It is meant for the world. If you don’t like it, shame on me, we should have done a better job.” Director Nitesh Tiwari also supported this perspective, explaining the film’s emotional depth. He said, “Emotions are universal. If the audience connects emotionally, they will connect with the story, no matter where they’re from.”

The upcoming two-part mythological epic, Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, consists of an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor as Ram, Yash as Ravana, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Sunny Deol as Hanuman, Amitabh Bachchan as Jatayu and also the narrator, and Ravi Dubey as Laxman, along with other talented actors. This film, which will feature a musical score by Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman, is slated to be released during Diwali in 2026.
