War 2 Enters 100-crore Club With a Huge Box Office Jump on Day 2

Ayan Mukerji’s War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani had its theatrical release on August 14. The spy action thriller began with a bunch of mixed reviews; the film witnessed a decent opening on day 1 driven majorly from the Telugu version of the film. The net collection on day 1 was Rs 51.5 crores while the Hindi version made only Rs 29 crores.

That being said, the film’s second day collection saw quite the turnaround by the virtue of Independence Day holiday. War 2 is said to have approximately earned Rs 56.5 crore (India net) across languages. With the total Indian net collection of Rs 108 crore in two days, the film has entered the 100-crore club within only couple days of its release.

On Day 2, the overall occupancy rate of the Hindi version of War 2 was 51.52% with morning shows starting at a slower rate of 27.16%. The occupancy experienced a rise in the afternoon with 58.71% and peaked in the evening 63.86%. Region wise, Chennai was on the forefront with a massive 94.75% occupancy, followed by Hyderabad at 80% and Lucknow at 73.75%. Both Tamil and Telugu markets have done comparatively well than the Hindi belt, thanks to Jr NTR’s huge fan following.

War 2 is the sixth film in YRF’s spy universe and is reportedly made on a whopping budget of Rs 325 crore. In two days, it surpassed the two-day total of its forerunner War (77.77 crore) starring Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff and Tiger 3 (103.75 crore) starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. The spy thriller is also clashing at the box office with Rajinikanth’s Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. Despite the critical reviews both the films received, which of the two comes out with victory at the box office remains to be seen.
