Exclusive: Kajol Recalls Being Directed By Ajay Devgn in U Me Aur Hum

In the latest episode of In the Ring, Kajol opened up about her experience of working under the direction of her husband Ajay Devgn in U Me Aur Hum. Known for their on-screen chemistry in several films, the actress got candid about what it was like to be directed by him for the very first time. She spoke not just as a co-star but also as someone who saw Ajay take charge behind the camera with an unexpected level of discipline and clarity.

When asked whether Ajay was a dictatorial director, Kajol quickly dismissed the idea and shared, “He was actually so superbly confident and so organised. I always knew he would be a good director, but I didn’t realise he would be such an organised director. I think being a director also has a lot to do with being organised your thoughts and being able to put a schedule into place to put that on camera. And he had that down pat from the first film itself which is what I found amazing.”

She went on to recall a particularly hectic time during the last schedule of the film saying, “At the end of U Me Aur Hum, Nysa was very small at that time and my dad was not well. I remember for the last schedule I had to run to the hospital every day so I would come on set at 10 o clock and he would let me leave by 4 o clock because I had to go to the hospital then I had to come back home then again get ready and come as we could not cancel the schedule it was the last schedule of the film. But we did so much work. We packed it in. The schedule of the film was not impacted at all even though I was working for those 6 hours. And he had done it so well. We were shooting the climax of the film in the hospital and stuff like that, but he managed all things very well. That’s why I say he is a wonderful director.”

On the professional front, Kajol was recently seen in the supernatural drama Maa directed by Vishal Furia and produced by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande. Her latest release Sarzameen is an emotional drama directed by Kayoze Irani where she stars alongside Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. The film released today on Jio Hotstar. Up next, she also has Maharagni lined up with Naseeruddin Shah and Prabhu Deva. Outside of films Kajol will be seen teaming up with author Twinkle Khanna to host an upcoming talk show.
