Ram Kapoor Removed From Mistry Promotions Over Inappropriate Remarks
Ram Kapoor has had to face consequences for making a series of sexually inappropriate and offensive remarks while promoting his upcoming web-series Mistry. After the show’s marketing team expressed their discomfort for the remarks he made, the actor was removed from any further promotions with his co-star Mona Singh, who is now doing solo interviews.
During the media promotions for Mistry, Ram Kapoor and Mona Singh gave over a dozen interviews over the course of the day. During these interactions, Ram Kapoor repeatedly joked about having kissed a male member from the show’s marketing team and even made a comment suggesting that his mother should have gone to bed instead of giving birth to him. He also made jokes of feeling that he was gang-raped in front of a journalist and casually brought up sexual positions in his conversations. The actor also made some remarks about the attire of a few female crew members present, stating, “If they are in my line of sight, how can I not look?”
On Friday evening, Mona was the sole person part of the interviews. According to a source, following an escalation of the situation, Ram Kapoor was debarred from participating in promotional activities. According to reports, the issue was brought up internally after the interviews concluded on Thursday evening and it was decided that Ram Kapoor would no longer be a part of the promotional events. A source from JioHotstar also stated, “This workplace prioritizes dignity and safety. After a complaint was formally raised and the incidents corroborated by eyewitnesses, the leadership moved promptly. The platform wants to distance itself from any behaviour that normalises workplace misconduct. The interviews are being held solely with Mona.”
Mistry, an official adaptation of the Emmy Award-winning series Monk, is scheduled to begin streaming on June 27, starring Ram Kapoor and Mona Singh in lead roles.
