The new Harry Potter series is being developed by HBO and aims to bring each of the seven books to life as full-length seasons. It’s a fresh take on the beloved story, with new actors playing the famous roles of Harry Potter, Hermione Granger, and Ron Weasley.
While Rowling won’t be credited as a writer, she confirmed she’s been working closely with the team behind the show. When a fan asked if she was writing the episodes, Rowling replied, “No, but I’ve worked closely with the extremely talented writers.” According to Variety, Rowling helped pick key creative leaders, including showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod, who are guiding the series.

Even though she’s excited about the show, Rowling remains a controversial figure. Since 2020, she has received criticism for her comments about gender and transgender issues on social media. She continues to post responses to critics and even claps back at celebrities, like John Oliver, who have spoken against her.
Coming back to the show, fans will see new faces in Hogwarts. Dominic McLaughlin will play Harry Potter. Arabella Stanton steps in as Hermione, while Alastair Stout will take on Ron Weasley’s role. Other characters getting new actors include Molly Weasley (Katherine Parkinson), Draco Malfoy (Lox Pratt), Lucius Malfoy (Johnny Flynn), Petunia Dursley (Bel Powley), and Vernon Dursley (Daniel Rigby). Familiar characters like Cornelius Fudge, Parvati Patil, Seamus Finnigan, and Lavender Brown will also appear in the show.
The series is expected to bring more depth to the magical world, offering fans a new way to enjoy the books they’ve grown up with. While no official release date has been announced yet, fans are eagerly waiting to return to Hogwarts, this time on the small screen.
