Mark Mothersbaugh to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Infinity Festival (Exclusive)

Mark Mothersbaugh is set to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award during the Infinity Festival’s Monolith Awards, which celebrate achievements that transcend conventional categories.

The honor will be presented Friday. The festival, which is led by founder and CEO Mark Lieber and chief creative officer Adam Newman, aims to “champion the intersection of entertainment, technology and gaming.” Now in its eighth year, the 2026 edition is running Oct. 9-10 at the the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the newly opened Sony Pictures Imageworks Mid-Wilshire campus on Los Angeles’ Museum Mile.

“We are beyond thrilled to honor Mark Mothersbaugh with the Lifetime Achievement Award at this year’s Monolith Awards,” Lieber and Newman said in a joint statement. “Mark’s work has continually redefined the boundaries of creativity, blending music, art and innovation in ways that inspire generations of creators. Recognizing him at the Monolith Awards is a celebration of his incredible impact on entertainment, technology, and culture — and we can’t wait to shine a spotlight on his remarkable career during the festival.”

Mothersbaugh, a conceptual artist and composer, co-founded the rock group DEVO and has scored 150 films, television shows, video games and hundreds of commercials through his multimedia company, Mutato Muzika. In addition, he has had 165 visual and audio art shows. Mothersbaugh also received a doctorate in Humane Letters at Kent State University, his alma mater.

Past Monolith Award recipients include James Cameron (Titanic, Avatar), filmmakers Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse), composer and director A. R. Rahman (Slumdog Millionaire, Le Musk) and new media artist Refik Anadol.

Awards are handed out under the broader categories of core storytelling excellence, technology leadership and industry impact and recognition.

“We’ve refined the categories from past editions of the festival, creating a set of honors designed to stand the test of time and serve as a benchmark for the industry moving forward. With this foundation, the Monolith Awards are positioned to become a true standard of excellence for our field,” said Andrea Bari, co-executive producer of the Monolith Awards alongside Jeroen Hallaert, said previously. Marc Sternberg is also co-producing the awards.

This year’s ceremony, presented by HP, NVIDIA and AMD, will be hosted by Emmy and Oscar-winning filmmaker Paul Debevec, chief research officer of Eyeline Studios.
