Thamma trailer: Ayushmann struggles with love, legend, rajma-chawal, Rashmika helps
The makers of ‘Thamma’ released the trailer of the film on Friday at an event in Mumbai. Starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, the film is centred around a “forgotten legend from our folklore” and follows two characters as they navigate love and stories that go beyond a layman’s understanding. Paresh Rawal also features in a hilariously significant role as Ayushmann’s father.
The trailer opens with Nawaz’s character, the ultimate villain, who has been trapped in a cave for ages. Ayushmann’s character discovers him, and soon after begins to notice changes in his body – including fangs, and a steel-like physique. While Rashmika’s character remains shrouded in a mystery, though, glimpses of her chemistry and complex relationship with Ayushmann are revealed.
Part of Maddock Films’ horror-comedy universe, ‘Thamma’ marks the fifth instalment rooted in folklore and fantastical beings. The trailer adds to the excitement around India’s first and only horror-comedy universe, especially given the consistent success of its previous films. The makers are calling ‘Thamma’ the first out-and-out love story in the franchise, while also continuing the tradition of addressing a social evil, just like its predecessors ‘Stree’, ‘Stree 2’, ‘Munjya’ and ‘Bhediya’.
‘Thamma’ is produced by Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who also helmed ‘Munjya’ from the same horror-comedy universe earlier. It will be hitting the screens on October 21.
