Blake Lively Teams With Marc Platt for Action Rom-Com ‘The Survival List’ at Lionsgate (Exclusive)

Blake Lively is keeping her movie career in motion, teaming up with Wicked producer Marc Platt to set up a new feature project at Lionsgate.

The studio, home of Lively’s A Simple Favor movies, has acquired The Survival List, a spec script by Tom Melia for the actress to star as well as produce.

An action romantic comedy, Survival List tells of a highbrow reality TV producer named Annie who, against her wishes, is assigned to a new show hosted by a famous survival expert, Chopper Lane. However, when a shipwreck strands them on a deserted island, Annie discovers Chopper is a fraud and knows nothing about survival, leaving her in charge of figuring out how to keep them alive. Forced to work together, they begin to discover an unlikely chemistry.

Scott O’Brien will oversee the project for Lionsgate.

Lively has been in the spotlight of late, more for her legal battles with director Justin Baldoni than her screen work. However, the actress-producer-entrepreneur is trying to keep the focus on her career and helping find material she could work on. She most recently starred in Another Simple Favor, made by Lionsgate and released by Amazon’s Prime Video, in which she reteamed with director Paul Feig and co-star Anna Kendrick.

Platt, a veteran movie and Broadway producer, is not only behind the stage production of long-running show Wicked but its movie adaptations as well, the second part of which is due to open Nov. 21. Platt also produced the live-action take of How to Train Your Dragon, which has flown to $626.4 million at the worldwide box office.

Melia is a British writer who co-wrote the comedy Rye Lane, which starred David Jonsson and Vivian Oparah, and premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. It was nominated for outstanding British film at the 2024 BAFTAs and also earned 16 nominations at the British Independent Film Awards, including best British independent film and best screenplay. Melia also wrote for the Sky drama series Brassic as well as the Sky comedy series Bloods.

Lively is repped by WME, Entertainment 360 and Sloane Offer. Melia is repped by WME and Kaplan/Perrone.
