Box Office Report: War 2’s Pace Slows Down on First Monday

After an impressive Independence Day weekend, War 2 directed by Ayan Mukherji, starring Hrithik Roshan, Jr NTR and Kiara Advani, has suddenly found itself in a difficult spot at the box office. The film arrived with sky high expectations thanks to its massive star cast, a festive release date and the brand recall of its blockbuster predecessor, but the early momentum has not lasted beyond the holiday frame.

In its first four days, the film brought in Rs 174.75 crore net across India. It opened strongly at Rs 52.50 crore on Thursday and jumped higher on Independence Day with Rs 57.35 crore. The weekend, however, signalled a slowdown with Saturday at Rs 33.25 crore and Sunday easing further to Rs 32.15 crore. These numbers showed that the film was beginning to lose some steam after its initial burst.

Monday proved to be the biggest setback as collections fell sharply to Rs 8.50 crore net, the lowest daily figure so far. With this dip, the film’s five-day domestic total stands at Rs 183.25 crore, while the worldwide gross has reached close to Rs 274 crore. The Hindi version has contributed the largest share with Rs 125.5 crore, the Telugu release supported by Jr NTR’s strong following has added Rs 47.5 crore and the Tamil version has managed only Rs 1.2 crore. At the same time, Rajinikanth’s Coolie has turned into a strong competitor, already crossing Rs 200 crore in India despite also seeing a Monday fall of about Rs 12 crore.

Even with these setbacks, War 2 still features among Hrithik Roshan’s top earners, but the sharp decline has created doubts about its long run. The Spy Universe has been known for big success stories, which is why this drop has raised concern that War 2 could be its first underperformer. With audience feedback remaining mixed and competition eating into its share, the weekday trend will be crucial in deciding if the film manages to settle into a steady run or slips into the list of the year’s most unexpected disappointments.
