Max Minghella in Talks to Join DC Studios Horror Movie ‘Clayface’

 
Max Minghella, one of the stars of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale, is in final negotiations to join the cast of Clayface, the next DC Studios movie heading into production.
 
Minghella will join Tom Rhys Harries and Naomi Ackie in the horror movie being directed by Speak No Evil director James Watkins. It goes into production this fall in the UK.
 
Mike Flanagan wrote the script for Clayface, a body-horror thriller centered on a Batman villain known for his ability to alter his appearance
 
The project is described as having shades and structure of The Fly, David Cronenberg’s 1986 feature that starred Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis and centered on the tragic relationship between a scientist who becomes fused with the DNA of a fly and the journalist writing about his discovery.

Clayface, which sources have said will have a budget in the mid-$40 million range, centers on an ascending actor (Harries) whose face is disfigured by a gangster. As a last resort, the actor turns to a fringe Elizabeth Holmes-style scientist (Ackie) for help.
 
Minghella will play a Gotham City police detective who is dating the scientist.
 
The movie is set for a Sept. 11, 2026 release date.
 
Minghella earned an Emmy nomination for playing the conflicted Nick Blaine in Handmaid’s Tale, which came to an end this spring. He recently wrapped the fourth season of the HBO drama, Industry, and saw his psychological thriller Shell premiered last at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film stars Elisabeth Moss, Kate Hudson and Kaia Gerber.
