Deepika Padukone Steps Down As Lead in The Intern Remake, Search for a New Actress On
Deepika Padukone will not be starring in the Indian remake of The Intern, if recent reports are to be believed. The actress made an official announcement a couple of years ago about the Hindi remake of the Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway starrer. Amitabh Bachchan and Padukone were supposed to lead the film, but there weren’t many developments following that.

Now, we are getting to know that the actress will not be starring in the film. Instead, she will only focus on her role as a producer. As per a source quoted by Mid-Day, “This time, Deepika will step away from acting in the film to serve solely as a producer, overseeing the creative and logistical reboot. A new leading lady is being cast to play the part she was once slated to perform.” Under her banner Ka Productions, the actress released two films – Chhapaak and 83. She is also co-producing The Intern.
The source continued, “The Intern is the first of five projects she plans to mount in the coming year. She is looking to tell stories that are globally relevant.”
Based on the initial glimpse of the first look poster, the remake of The Intern will be a joint production involving Sunil Kheterpal, Warner Bros. India, Ka Productions, and Azure Entertainment. The screenplay for the movie has been adapted by Akshat Ghildial. Originally, the film was scheduled to be released in the summer of 2022.
Meanwhile, Deepika Padukone was last seen in Singham Again with her husband Ranveer Singh and an ensemble cast including Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Tiger Shroff, Akshay Kumar, Jackie Shroff and Arjun Kapoor, among others.
A couple of months ago, she announced her Telugu film with Allu Arjun and Atlee. Tentatively titled AA22xA6, the film will see her second collaboration with Atlee after Jawan. Deepika will also reportedly play a key role in Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming film King, although an official announcement is awaited.
