Ayushmann Khurrana & Sharvari to Star in Sooraj Barjatya’s Next Project?

Sooraj Barjatya, the filmmaker behind some of Bollywood’s most iconic family dramas, is working on his next project, and according to media reports, it will star Ayushmann Khurrana and Sharvari Wagh in lead roles. The film, set in Mumbai, is already on floors in the city.

In a recent interview with PTI, Barjatya did not reveal names but spoke warmly about his lead actor, describing him as “a dedicated and fine actor.” He added that for him, the most important thing is getting the right story and pairing it with the right ensemble. “It’s all about making it look real and casting people who fit the world I’m creating. And like all my films, there will be many other important characters alongside the leads,” he said.

Barjatya, who made his debut with the blockbuster Maine Pyaar Kiya and later delivered Hum Aapke Hain Koun, Hum Saath Saath Hain, and Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, admitted he still feels the same nervousness before a shoot that he did back in 1989. “That nervousness has never gone away. For me, it’s never just about box office numbers, it’s about whether people connect with the thought and the scenes,” he explained.

The filmmaker said authenticity is his biggest goal. “Whether it’s a film or a show, the world should feel honest. It shouldn’t look fake. I want people to feel like, ‘This is my home, my family.’ That’s my biggest challenge,” he said, adding that while different genres are important, he remains committed to telling family stories.

Industry chatter suggests that Ayushmann may be stepping into the iconic ‘Prem’ role made famous by Salman Khan in several of Barjatya’s earlier films, though there has been no official confirmation of this yet.

Sharvari, meanwhile, has a packed schedule, she will also be seen alongside Alia Bhatt in Alpha, part of YRF’s spy universe. With its relatable themes, ensemble cast, and Barjatya’s trademark style, the upcoming film is already one of the most talked-about family dramas in the making.
