Paramount’s Michael Ireland to Exit as Film Chief

Paramount Motion Picture group chief Michael Ireland will be departing Paramount amid the studio’s merger with Skydance, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed. Sources say he will consult for the studio and is considering an offer for a producing deal.

The news comes a day after as Skydance chief David Ellison revealed his executive team for the new Paramount, including tapping Skydance chief content officer Dana Goldberg and former Sony Pictures exec Josh Greenstein to lead the Paramount studio as co-chairs, a position presently held solely by Brian Robbins. Goldberg also serves as chair of Paramount Television and Greenstein as vice chair of Platforms.

Skydance veteran Don Granger will lead the film production side, essentially taking over for Ireland among other duties, though Granger’s role hasn’t yet been officially announced.

Ireland started his career at MTV and then moved to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Apian Way in 2007, before joining 20th Century Fox in 2012, where he rose to senior vp, production, overseeing Ryan Reynolds’ Free Guy. Ireland moved from Fox to Paramount in late 2020, where he led the studio’s production efforts with Daria Cercek, who departed for Disney earlier this year.

Under his tenure at Paramount, he worked on films such as Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II, Sandra Bullock’s The Lost City, Top Gun: Maverick, the Transformers franchise and the latest Mission: Impossible films, among many others.

Deadline was the first to report the news.
