Veteran Malayalam Actor Shanavas, Son of Prem Nazir, Passes Away at 71
Veteran Malayalam actor Shanavas, son of Prem Nazir, passed away at the age of 71, due to health complications. Reports say that he passed away in a private hospital while receiving treatment for kidney-related issues. His passing has brought immense grief to the Malayalam film industry, his colleagues and his devoted fans.
Media sources have shared that he is survived by his wife, Ayesha, and their two sons. The actor passed away late Monday evening, around 11:50 PM, at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He had been receiving treatment for heart and kidney conditions for the past four years. Shanavas lived in Vazhuthacaud’s Cordon Trinity. After a decline in his health on Monday night, he was admitted to the hospital. The last rites will take place at the Palayam Muslim Jamaat Cemetery today.
Born in Thiruvananthapuram to actor Prem Nazir and Habeeba Beevi, Shanavas pursued his early education at Chirayinkeezhu English Medium School, Montfort School, and Yercaud. He later earned a master’s degree in English Literature from New College, Chennai.
On the work front, Shanavas has been involved in over 50 films throughout his career and was a recognized figure in Malayalam cinema. He started his career in 1981 with the romantic film Prema Geethangal, under the direction of Balachandra Menon. His notable works include Mazhanilavu, Eeyugam, Maniyara, Nilgiri, Garbhasreeman, and Zakariyayude Garbhinikal. Apart from that, he has also participated in television serials such as Shankhumugham, Veluthu Katrina, Kadamattathu Kathanar, and Satyameva Jayate.
Shanavas resumed his acting career in 2011 with China Town. His final appearance was in the critically acclaimed film Jana Gana Mana, which featured Prithviraj in the leading role. The plot revolves around the brutal murder of a college professor, which incites student unrest. A police officer initiates an investigation, while a lawyer pursues justice within the courtroom.
