Rajnikanth’s charisma shines in the Lokesh Kanagaraj’s high-octane Coolie trailer

The upcoming film Coolie, starring Rajinikanth, has been one of the most awaited films of the year. On Saturday, Sun Pictures, the production company, released the official trailer. This action-packed trailer gives a closer look at Rajinikanth’s character, Deva, a smuggler seeking revenge. With the trademark “Rajni style” and a powerful background score by Anirudh Ravichander, the Coolie trailer hints at a major entertainment experience from Lokesh Kanagaraj.

The trailer finally gives a proper look into the world of crime and smuggling shown in the film, with Rajinikanth making a grand entry as the aging smuggler, Deva. He formulates a plan to reunite his former gang and seize control. Also, the trailer provides a first glimpse of the characters played by Nagarjuna and Shruti Haasan.

Reacting to the trailer, a fan commented, “Goosebumps! Cannot wait for August 14!” Another fan wrote, “Lokesh + Anirudh + Rajini = Blockbuster.” One of the comments read, “This is going to be a peak experience inside the theatre. Rajinikanth is the GOAT, so excited for Coolie.” Another fan expressed their excitement saying, “Lokesh Kanagaraj has cooked up something really incredible!” 

Coolie will not be included in the Lokesh Cinematic Universe (LCU), which currently includes the films Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo. Coolie features a cast including Rajinikanth, Aamir Khan, Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Satyaraj, Upendra, and Shoubin Shahir, among others. The film’s music has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Coolie marks Lokesh’s first collaboration with Rajinikanth. Before its release, the Central Board of Film Certification gave the film an A certificate.

Earlier this month, the film’s plot was revealed on Letterboxd and Fandango, and the platform’s synopsis states, “An aging gold smuggler uses stolen tech hidden in vintage golden watches to revive his old mafia crew. But his plan to reclaim his empire spirals into something bigger, a new universe forged from crime, greed, and broken time.” 

Coolie is slated to be released in theatres on August 14, which clashes with the release of Ayan Mukherji’s War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan, Kiara Advani and Jr NTR.
