Tehran Trailer: John Abraham Sports An Intense Avatar As The Film Announces OTT Release on August 14
The official trailer for the upcoming film, Tehran released today, wherein John Abraham plays a hot-headed Delhi police officer going on a daring mission in a foreign land. However, John Abraham’s character, Rajeev Kumar, has to take on this mission without the backing of the government.
The two-minute-and-thirty-nine-second video starts with the government requesting assistance from Delhi police officer Rajeev Kumar, played by John Abraham, after a terrorist attack targeting civilians. Eventually, Rajeev leaves alone for Tehran, taking on the mission single-handedly.

On Thursday, the makers released a poster for the upcoming spy thriller, and they also announced that the film will be released directly on an OTT platform. The release of the long-delayed film is now set for August 14th on ZEE5.
The poster shows a part of John Abraham’s face, appearing bloodied and intense, as he looks on from behind a wall, with a dark and gritty cityscape serving as the background.
The text “Hunted by Iran. Abandoned by Israel. Deserted by India” is displayed on one side of the poster, while the film’s title, Tehran, is seen across the image. The caption added with the post said, “Dilli mein ek blast ne sirf ek embassy nahi, ek soye hue junoon ko jaga diya. Tehran, coming this Independence Week, on Zee5.”
Based on true events, Tehran features Manushi Chhillar, Neeru Bajwa, Madhurima Tuli, and Elnaaz Norouzi in key roles apart from John Abraham. While initially planned in 2023, its release was postponed, and the filming concluded in 2022.
During an interview with Filmfare, John discussed the film earlier, “If you’re invested in the Russia-Ukraine crisis, wonder what China is doing, what Iran is doing, where does Palestine fit in this whole thing, Tehran is about all of this. It’s a stunning film.” Tehran is produced by Dinesh Vijan, Shobhna Yadav, and Sandeep Leyzell.
Notably, John’s last two films have also explored social and political themes. Earlier this year, he appeared in The Diplomat, playing the role of the real-life Indian diplomat JP Singh, who is involved in a mission to assist Uzma Ahmed (Sadia), an Indian citizen, in escaping an abusive marriage in Pakistan. Also, last year, he was featured in Nikkhil Advani’s Veda, an action-thriller that addressed the issue of caste discrimination.
