EXCLUSIVE: “I’m Only Committed to The Actor in Me” – Vidya Balan

When asked whether playing powerful, agency filled characters puts her under pressure, she shrugged it off with ease. “There’s no pressure. If something doesn’t feel right, I won’t do it. I’m not trying to maintain an image, that’s a trap I avoid,” she said. While being called a torchbearer for female led films is flattering, she insists she’s just been lucky to be part of strong stories. “I’m not here to send messages, I’m here to act. Whether it’s something powerful or something absurd and Chaplin-esque, I’m game. My only commitment is to the actor in me,” she added.
Vidya also opened up about her 12-year marriage with producer Siddharth Roy Kapur. She admitted she was once hesitant about the idea of marriage. “Honestly, I didn’t want to marry at all. It felt like domestication,” she revealed. Past relationships, though unsuccessful, gave her emotional depth. “At the time, I even romanticised pain. Then I met Siddharth and it just felt natural. Effortless.
