Anushka Sharma’s Co-star Renuka Shahane Expresses Her Disappointment on Chakda Xpress Being Shelved
Anushka Sharma, who has been absent from the big screen since 2018, was planning her return with cricketer Jhulan Goswami’s biopic, Chakda Xpress. Unfortunately, reports suggesting the sports drama has been shelved have saddened fans and co-stars both. After Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Renuka Shahane has also shared her disappointment regarding this unexpected news.
Having shot for the film in 2022, Renuka shared, “I didn’t know. I am very shocked. I am totally heartbroken. Basically, because I think everyone has put in so much effort. Anushka has also worked on herself so much for it. And whatever scenes I did were so powerful and so impactful, especially for women in sports.”
She also expressed her appreciation for the team and described the film as one made with genuine love and hard work. Renuka added, “Jhulan Goswami is iconic and coming from a very poor house and making it big and yet the kind of discrepancy that still exists between men’s cricket and women’s cricket and all other sports, I would say. Chakda Xpress had that core quality of sportsmanship.”
Regarding Anushka’s portrayal of Jhulan Goswami, Renuka expressed her admiration for the remarkable job she had done in shaping the character, also pointing out the particular challenge of playing iconic figures, which brings forth an additional aspect of difficulty to the performance. She shared how Anushka Sharma went through intense cricket trainings and drills to get the bowling action of Jhulan Goswami in an accurate way.
Renuka further shared, “It’s shot well, it’s really well made. I was so looking forward to it. I wish there was some way such a beautiful film could be salvaged.”
Meanwhile, the team of Chakda Xpress is yet to release an official statement on the update. Till then, both the fans and the cast members hope for this film to avoid being shelved.
