Birthday Special: When Kriti Sanon Spoke About Struggles of Being an Outsider | Exclusive

Kriti Sanon has entered her 11th year in the film industry. The actress made her debut in 2014 with the Telugu film 1: Nenokkadine, and in the same year, she made her Hindi debut with Heropanti. With films such as Dilwale, Raabta, Bareilly Ki Barfi and Mimi among others, Kriti had a steady growth in her career. She is celebrating her 35th birthday today. On this occasion, we look back at some of the candid quotes shared by the actress with us.
During one of her interviews with Filmfare last year, Kriti spoke about completing 10 years in the industry and said it felt like a dream. “It does feel like a dream and an incredibly fulfilling journey. There are moments when I pause and reflect on how I didn’t even know I wanted to be an actor. I feel incredibly blessed and grateful when I think back to those times. It’s rare to discover your passion and then turn it into your career. I’m grateful that I found mine. It feels like this is where I was meant to be. I’ve had experiences as an engineer and a model, but I truly believe I’ve found my true calling now.”

Despite being an outsider, she is one of the most popular actresses in Bollywood and also ventured into production last year with Do Patti. Talking about making her debut with Sajid Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment’s production despite not coming from a filmy background, she had stated, “I feel really lucky to have had such a strong debut with Heropanti, thanks to Sajid Nadiadwala and Sabbir Khan. They provided a fantastic platform for us and marketed the film in a way that treated Tiger (Shroff) and me equally. It wasn’t about being a star kid or not; it was about introducing two new faces. I’m grateful that my debut was successful and that it helped me establish myself in the industry.”

In another interview with Filmfare a couple of years back, Kriti yet again opened up about her journey in the industry as an outsider. She shared, “Everyone has their own journey. It hasn’t been as easy as it would have been had I been born in a film family. People would’ve known me even before I entered. I’d have probably got an opportunity more easily. I’d have signed my second film before my first film released. I’d have appeared on Koffee with Karan way faster. But the competition is so much today, you need talent to survive, no matter where you come from or how good you look. There are a lot of actors, not from film families, who’re doing extremely well. It feels good. You feel proud because no matter where you come from, few people believed in you and supported you.”

On the work front, rumours are rife that the actress will be starring in Don 3 opposite Ranveer Singh. However, there has not been any official announcement on this. Besides this, Kriti is also working on Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush.
