“James Fraser Dies” in First ‘Outlander’ Season 8 Footage

“War is coming to the backcountry,” and “James Fraser dies in it.”

That’s the warning Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) reads in Frank Randall’s (Tobias Menzies) book; Frank is Claire Randall/Fraser’s (Catriona Balfe) first husband. It sounds like Outlander is about to end with a bang (and possibly to the back of Jamie’s dome).

The key Outlander players (time-)traveled to San Diego on Friday for Comic-Con. In Hall H, they revealed the first look at the Starz show’s eighth and final season. You can watch that just below; the new stuff starts around the 1:55 mark.

Also revealed at Comic-Con International was the premiere timing of season eight: early 2026.

From there, Outlander: Blood of my Blood takes over — on TV as well as at SDCC.

During the prequel series’ panel, Blood of my Blood showrunner Matthew B. Roberts announced that his new show will now air the first two episodes — no longer just the one — on its Aug. 8, 2025 premiere date. The rest of the episodes roll out weekly on Fridays.

Outlander: Blood of my Blood is the love stories before the love story — it tells the tale of how the parents of Jamie (Brian Fraser, played by Jamie Roy, and Ellen MacKenzie, played by Harriet Slater) and Claire (Julia Moriston, played by Hermione Corfield, and Henry Beauchamp, played by Jeremy Irvine) met, respectively.

Roberts is also the showrunner of the OG Outlander; Ronald D. Moore, Maril Davis, Toni Graphia, Luke Schelhaas, Andy Harries, Jim Kohlberg, Caitríona Balfe and Sam Heughan executive produce the series with him. “Outlander” is produced by Sony Pictures Television. The series is based on Diana Gabaldon’s nine-book novel series, which has sold an estimated 50 million copies worldwide.

Along with Roberts, Moore, Maril Davis and Jim Kohlberg executive produce Blood of my Blood; both series are produced by Sony Pictures Television.
