Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar to Premiere at TIFF 2025

Bollywood’s acclaimed filmmaker Anurag Kashyap is back on the global stage with his latest film Bandar (Monkey in a Cage), which is all set to have its world premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) 2025, marking the festival’s 50th edition. Running from September 4 to 14, TIFF 2025 will host the unveiling of Bandar, a gritty drama inspired by true events. The film stars Bobby Deol in a powerful lead role, alongside Sanya Malhotra, Saba Azad, and Sapna Pabbi. Produced by Nikhil Dwivedi, the film’s title and poster were officially revealed this week.

Bobby Deol shared the poster on Instagram, writing, “The story that should not have been told… But is the Official Selection at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival 2025. Our film inspired from true events is premiering at #tiff50.” The poster, showcasing Bobby in an intense, haunting look, received praise from the film industry. His brother Sunny Deol dropped heart and thumbs-up emojis, while Vikrant Massey, Pooja Hegde, and Darshan Kumar also congratulated him in the comments.

Bandar marks Kashyap’s return to the international festival circuit, known for his hard-hitting films like Gangs of Wasseypur, Black Friday, and Ugly. This new project is expected to carry the same raw, unfiltered storytelling that Kashyap is celebrated for.

The film is backed by Nikhil Dwivedi, who previously produced Veere Di Wedding, CTRL, and the upcoming fantasy drama Naagin starring Shraddha Kapoor. The premiere date for Bandar at TIFF is yet to be announced.

Celebrating its golden anniversary, TIFF 2025 will feature films from over 30 countries, with Bandar among a strong Indian presence. Other Indian titles on the lineup include Neeraj Ghaywan’s Homebound and a special screening of Ramesh Sippy’s iconic Sholay. With its powerful cast, compelling story, and Kashyap’s bold vision, Bandar is already generating buzz as one of the most talked-about Indian films to watch out for this festival season.
