Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara Storms The Box Office on Day 2
Mohit Suri’s Saiyaara is creating waves at the Indian box office, surprising both critics and audiences with its powerful opening. The romantic drama, starring debutants Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, has earned a massive Rs 45 crore in just two days, putting it on track to cross the Rs 50 crore mark by the end of its first weekend.
Released with minimal buzz and no traditional promotions, Saiyaara opened to Rs 21 crore on Friday and climbed further on Saturday with Rs 24 crore. The film’s fresh cast and emotional storytelling are clearly connecting with viewers, especially Gen Z, who have turned out in big numbers.
What makes this success even more notable is the competition Saiyaara is facing and beating, too. The film has outperformed big-banner releases like Rajkummar Rao’s Maalik and even Kajol’s Maa. It has also left behind re-releases of cult classics like Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani and Sanam Teri Kasam in terms of box office traction.
Director Mohit Suri, known for his past hits like Aashiqui 2, adopted a unique strategy by keeping the lead cast a secret until release, a move that seems to have paid off. The film’s organic buzz and word-of-mouth popularity echo the impact of Aashiqui 2, which also introduced new stars and struck an emotional chord with audiences.
Ahaan Panday, cousin of Ananya Panday, is now being called an overnight sensation, while Aneet Padda, previously seen in Big Girls Don’t Cry, is earning praise for her sensitive performance. Their chemistry, paired with a soulful soundtrack and classic romantic narrative, is drawing comparisons to the great love stories of Bollywood.
On Saturday, Saiyaara recorded a high occupancy rate of 51.24 percent for Hindi shows, indicating not just early excitement but sustained audience interest. Backed by Yash Raj Films, this no-frills love story is winning hearts across India and might just reshape how debut films are launched in Bollywood.
