Son of Sardaar 2 trailer reaction: Ajay trolls Pakistan, sparks mixed fan buzz

Ajay Devgn is all set to revisit his comic roots with the much-anticipated ‘Son of Sardaar 2’. The trailer was unveiled on Friday, introducing Mrunal Thakur as the new female lead, promising viewers a hearty dose of chaotic humour and misadventures.

Reactions to the trailer have been mixed. While many fans expressed excitement about Devgn’s return to comedy, others couldn’t help but miss Sanjay Dutt and Sonakshi Sinha, who starred in the original. Some even questioned the necessity of reviving the franchise over a decade later. One fan wrote, “To be frank comedy and dance and these histrionics don’t suit you. You look clumsy and jaded. Stick to action and thrillers. Frank opinion as a fan (sic)”.

Another wrote, “Glad to see you back in the comedy role, sir. All the best for #SonOfSardaar2 (sic)”, while another said, “It’s aswesome trailer 500cr loading for Ajay Devgn (sic).

Another wrote, “Sona ko hi Lena tha aur sanjubaba no one can matching him (sic).”

The trailer kicks off on a humorous note, with Ajay Devgn’s character addressing an elderly woman as ‘Bebe’—only to be caught off guard as she launches into a pole dance, eventually collapsing in a comical twist. This opening gag sets the tone for what appears to be a classic comedy of errors.

Beyond the laughs, the film also seems to weave in elements of patriotism. A portion of the trailer focusses on the life of an Army officer, with Ajay’s character taking a cheeky jab at Pakistan, remarking that they “drop bombs in our country”. The dialogue hints at the film’s attempt to blend slapstick humour with timely commentary.

Helmed by Vijay Kumar Arora, ‘Son of Sardaar 2’ boasts a star-studded ensemble, including Ravi Kishan, Sanjay Mishra, Neeru Bajwa, Chunky Panday, Kubbra Sait, Deepak Dobriyal, Vindu Dara Singh, Roshni Walia, Sharat Saxena, Sahil Mehta, and the late Mukul Dev. The film is presented by Jio Studios and Devgn Films, under the banners of Devgn Films and Son Of Sardaar 2 Limited, with Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande serving as producers.

The film is slated for release on July 25. Unlike its predecessor, the sequel is expected to chart a new course rather than picking up from where the 2012 original left off.

The first ‘Son of Sardaar’, which hit cinemas in 2012, featured Devgn opposite Sonakshi Sinha, and included notable performances by Sanjay Dutt and Juhi Chawla, with a special cameo by Salman Khan. The film was released alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’, yet managed to perform well at the box office.
