Aamir Khan to Begin Production for Mahabharat in August?
Aamir Khan recently spoke about wanting to work on a project related to the epic Mahabharat. Calling it his dream project, he has been talking about working on something large-scale. During a recent interview with Screen, Aamir weighed in on the significance of the project and revealed more about the production.

He noted that the production is slated to begin in August. He also noted that the project would be a series of back-to-back movies. He acknowledged it will be vast, with an intense narrative. Sharing that he is “starting to work on it,” Aamir said, “Well, I’m starting work on it in the month of August. It will be a series of films. It’ll be back-to-back. Because you can’t tell the Mahabharat in just one film.”
Adding further, Aamir shared that he needs to tell the story and get it across. The Sitaare Zameen Par actor noted, “And you know, the Mahabharat is very dangerous. It’s again a story which is in my blood. No one can do anything about it. I need to tell it. So, I’m starting work on it.”
Aamir also revealed his plans about casting. When asked if he wants established actors to be cast in the project, he noted that he does not plan to take known faces. Aamir justified his stance, stating, “I don’t plan to take any known faces in the film. For me, the characters are the stars. I want unknown faces. There’ll be entirely new cast for it, is what I’m thinking.”
It is not known whether Aamir is beginning pre-production work or filming of Mahabharat from next month. However, at a previous event, he noted, “Yeh mera sapna hai ke main bana paun Mahabharat, lekin bohot mushkil sapna hai woh… (It is my dream to make the Mahabharat, but it’s a very difficult dream…) see, Mahabharat will never let you down… but you might let Mahabharat down.”
Aamir Khan’s recent release includes Sitaare Zameen Par. The movie was well-received by the audience. Filmfare’s reviewer gave it 4 stars. He noted, “Sitaare Zameen Par is not just about basketball or redemption, it’s a subtle but stirring reminder that children and adults with special needs don’t require our sympathy, but our respect, understanding, and above all, our love. More than anything else, it asks us to broaden our definition of what it means to be “normal” and to embrace difference with an open heart.”
