Andy Samberg’s ’Digman!’ Season 2 Premiere Pushed to Follow Delayed ‘South Park’ Season 27
Where South Park goes, Digman! follows — literally.
The season two premiere of Andy Samberg’s Digman! is being pushed out two weeks to Wednesday, July 23, just like the season 27 premiere of South Park. Digman! airs in Comedy Central’s 10:30 p.m. time slot, immediately after South Park at 10.
South Park’s season 27 premiere was delayed on Wednesday. The news came amid a streaming-rights battle between the creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, and the channel’s parent company, Paramount Global.
Parker and Stone are not happy about the delay, and they made that known.
“In response to the press release from Comedy Central about the change in premiere date for South Park Trey Parker & Matt Stone said — ‘This merger is a shitshow and it’s fucking up South Park. We are at the studio working on new episodes and we hope the fans get to see them somehow,’” a tweet posted on Wednesday to South Park’s official X profile reads.
South Park and Digman! were supposed to premiere their new seasons on Wednesday, July 9. The merger that Parker and Stone referred to, which will combine David Ellison’s Skydance and Paramount Global, is set to close by July 6. The deadline could be extended.
Parker and Stone contend that incoming Skydance-Paramount president Jeff Shell is attempting to tank outside bids for the next round of South Park’s digital rights, which remain under Paramount for two more years. Parker and Stone believe Shell wants to make sure the combined company hangs on to South Park’s library and new episodes, regardless of the financial ramifications for their joint venture with Paramount, South Park Digital Studios.
Samberg created, stars in and produces Digman! The series is showrun by Samberg’s co-creator, Neil Campbell. Season 2 will star Mitra Jouhari (Three Busy Debras) as the voice of Saltine, Tim Robinson (I Think You Should Leave) as Swooper, Dale Soules (Orange Is The New Black) as Agatha, Guz Khan (Our Flag Means Death) as Zane, Melissa Fumero (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as Bella and Tim Meadows (The Goldbergs) as Quail Eegan.
