Script locked for The Batman sequel, makers share update on Robert Pattinson’s return
Following months of waiting and theories that fans have come up with, The Batman: Part II has already made significant progress, as the script has been completed. Director Matt Reeves shared an update on social media, posting a black-and-white photograph of the screenplay’s cover. Although slightly blurred, the image revealed the title The Batman: Part II, along with the bat insignia. In the background, Reeves and co-writer Mattson Tomlin are visible, sitting together. Reeves captioned the image, “Partners in Crime (Fighters).”
Mr. Tomlin later shared the news on X, which was met with relief from the fans who had been waiting for updates. In recent months, fans have been eagerly asking DC Studios co-chair James Gunn, seeking updates on the sequel’s development. In a previous interview, James Gunn acknowledged the increasing hype, stating, “We’re supposed to get the script in June. I hope that happens. We feel really good about it. Matt’s excited. I talk to Matt all the time. I’m totally excited about it.”
Backing up Reeves, James Gunn shared, “Let the guy write the screenplay in the time he needs. He doesn’t owe you anything. You liked the movie because of Matt, so let him do it his way.”
He mentioned that Reeves seemed to be unbothered by the discussions, stating, “He’s got other things going on, so I don’t think he lets it get to him. But I do get irritated by the entitlement. The film will come when Matt feels the script is ready.”
In the meantime, Robert Pattinson, who will reprise his role as the dark and brooding vigilante, once humorously shared, “I began as a young Batman, and I will be an older Batman by the sequel.”
