Aalim Hakim Reveals Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal Look Was Inspired From Michael Jackson

Ranbir Kapoor grabbed attention with the release of Animalin December 2023. While the film faced criticism online for its alleged misogynistic tone, it also broke several box office records. Ranbir’s rugged appearance, with long hair and a thick beard, became a major talking point. Celebrity hairstylist Aalim Hakim shared that the actor’s hairstyle, especially the curls, drew inspiration from pop icon, Michael Jackson.

Aalim Hakim shared that Animal featured multiple looks for Ranbir’s character. “Vanga sir had told that the lead has long hair, but he had it in his younger days and then cut it off for his father and then upon return from America, he also has long hair. So both these long hair looks must be different,” he said. Aalim added that once he learned that the character was a fan of Michael Jackson, the idea clicked. “I remembered MJ’s iconic leather jacket and white t-shirt style. I cracked the look and took inspiration from Michael Jackson’s curls and man bun for Ranbir.”

 
Aalim further shared, “I collected the iconic pictures of Michael Jackson and recreated that look. When people watched the film, they were not able to see that is the same style. Now that I am saying it, one can see the similarities. He actually makes his entrance with a moonwalk.”

Animal follows the journey of Ranvijay Singh, who goes on a violent rampage after his father, Balbir Singh (played by Anil Kapoor), comes under threat. As he takes down multiple foes, he eventually confronts Abrar Haque (Bobby Deol), who turns out to be his estranged cousin. The film also featured Rashmika Mandanna and Tripti Dimri in key roles. A sequel titled Animal Park has already been officially announced. The sequel is expected to continue Ranvijay’s intense story with even higher emotional stakes.
