2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame Class: George Clinton, Doobie Brothers, Mike Love

George Clinton, the Doobie Brothers, Mike Love, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Tony Macaulay and Ashley Gorley make up the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame class.

The organization announced on Wednesday that the incoming class will be inducted on June 12 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel in New York City. Male writers represent the entire 2025 group and the race to enter this year was tight, with acts like Janet Jackson, Alanis Morissette, Eminem, N.W.A. and Sheryl Crow earning nominations but not making the cut.

“The foundation of the music industry exists because songwriters compose great songs. Without them, there is no recorded music, no concert business, no fans, or merchandising; it all starts with the song and the songwriter. We are therefore very proud that we are continually recognizing some of the culturally most important writers of all time and that this year’s slate represents not just iconic songs, but also diversity and unity across genres and ethnicity,” says Grammy-winning artist Nile Rodgers, who is chairman of the Songwriters Hall. “These songwriters have enriched the lives of billions of listeners the world over. It’s our honor to honor them.”

A songwriter with a catalog of notable songs qualifies for induction 20 years after their first significant commercial release of a song. R.E.M., Timbaland, Steely Dan, Hillary Lindsey and Dean Pitchford were inducted into the Songwriters Hall’s 2024 class last year. The event also honored SZA and Diane Warren.

Others nominated for the 2025 class include Bryan Adams, Boy George, Steve Winwood, David Gates, Tommy James, Walter Afanasieff, Narada Michael Walden, Steve Barri and P.F. Sloan, Mike Chapman, Sonny Curtis, Tom Douglas, Dan Penn and Spooner Oldham, Roger Nichols, Dennis Lambert, Brian Potter and Franne Golde.
