Francisco San Martin, ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Jane the Virgin’ Actor, Dies at 39 

Francisco San Martin, the actor best known for his work in Days of Our Lives and Jane the Virgin, died Thursday. He was 39. 

A report by the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office confirmed that San Martin died by suicide.

San Martin appeared as Dario Hernandez on Days of Our Lives from 2010-2011, where he was featured in 59 episodes of the popular soap opera. San Martin continued his career in the soap sub-genre in 2017 on 16 episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful, the same year he acted in the CW’s Jane the Virgin for seven episodes, where he played Fabian Regalo del Cielo alongside Gina Rodriguez.

Hailing from Mallorca, San Martin was raised in Montana, where he began acting in children’s theater, before he moved back to Spain as a teenager and worked as a model. There, he continued taking acting classes and appeared in various stage, television and film productions before he embarked on his career as an actor in the United States.

His additional credits include Steven Soderbergh’s 2013 film inspired by Liberace Behind the Candelabra, the 2022 short Hotter Up Close and his final project Dot, helmed by Tiffany Frances, in 2022.

Camila Banus, who played San Martin’s character’s sister on Days of Our Lives, shared a tribute to him in her Instagram story, according to multiple reports. “Pepe, what can I say but I love you and rest in peace, my friend,” she wrote according to multiple reports. “Love you mucho mucho mucho. I wish I had told you more.”
