Adam Carolla Weighs in on Friend Jimmy Kimmel’s Suspension: “I Know How Decent He Is”

Adam Carolla, the comedian, podcast host and longtime friend of ABC late night star Jimmy Kimmel, weighed in on Kimmel’s suspension by the network Friday.

Carolla, who co-hosted The Man Show with Kimmel, has a particularly unique perspective, as he is well-known for his right-leaning political views, in contrast to Kimmel’s personal politics.

“I think a lot of people want me to comment on it. It’s a weird thing,” Carolla said on his show Thursday. “The right and the left are always sort of misinterpreting things. He was inaccurate about something. It wasn’t like he was necessarily attacking Charlie Kirk. He was trying to dump it on Trump and inaccurate about it.

“I know Jimmy to be a very good guy and a generous guy, and I’ve always said that about him. And I realize that while everyone else knows Jimmy as a caricature, I know him as a person,” Carolla continued. “When I run into people that don’t know Jimmy as a person, [Bill] O’Reilly or Dave Rubin, Dennis Prager, and they go, ‘what’s up with your buddy Jimmy?’ Well, I know him, so that’s why I don’t think of him like you think of him. But on the other hand, they think of you as a cartoon character too… I know Jimmy is a human and I know how good he is and I know how decent he is, and we disagree politically, but who cares? We disagree on pizza toppings as well, but it doesn’t mean we don’t talk.”

While Carolla did not specifically lay out whether he thought the suspension was warranted or not, he suggested that he was in favor of letting Kimmel (and every other host) speak their mind, and let viewers make the call on what they want.

“In general, I just want people to speak and then the ratings will do the talking and you can support them or not support them,” Carolla said. “You can watch it or you can watch Gutfeld and listen to him bash Kimmel or however you want to do it.”
