Kamala Harris to Appear on ‘The Rachel Maddow Show’ in First Major News Interview

Kamala Harris will sit down with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow next week in one of her first major interviews since the 2024 election.

The interview will take place Sept. 22, with Harris live on set for Maddow’s 9 p.m. ET show. This comes as the former vice president is launching a tour for her new book, 107 Days, which details what happened behind the scenes of her presidential election campaign last year.

The following day, on Sept. 23, Harris will appear on The View for her first return to the ABC talk show since the election.

Harris appeared on CBS’s The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in July for her first post-election interview. In that appearance, she elaborated on her decision not to run for governor of California, saying “I don’t want to go back in the system. I think it’s broken,” and spoke about her upcoming book.

In a released excerpt of the book, Harris says it was  “recklessness” for Democrats to leave the decision up to President Joe Biden as to whether to seek another term.

“The stakes were simply too high,” Harris writes in the book. “This wasn’t a choice that should have been left to an individual’s ego, an individual’s ambition. It should have been more than a personal decision.”

As for the upcoming interview on MSNBC, Maddow said she had “roughly 400,000 things” to ask, but she added that statements Harris made during her campaign, including about pardoning the Jan. 6 rioters and using the U.S. military against citizens, has come to fruition.

“In the 10 months or so that have transpired since the 2024 election, it feels like we’ve had about 10 years worth of news. But in thinking about talking to Kamala Harris next week, I realized that there’s a lot on the record from her time in public life that is kind of helpful right now, especially helpful to the point that we shouldn’t kid ourselves that anything that Trump has done is surprising,” Maddow said Monday.
