Ken Jeong to Receive King of Comedy Award From Catalina Film Festival
Ken Jeong is about to add another title to his already impressive résumé.
The veteran actor, comedian, writer and producer, who got his start as a licensed physician, has been selected to receive a King of Comedy award from the 15th annual Catalina Film Festival. The prize will be doled out during the fest’s milestone anniversary and awards ceremony at the Avalon Theatre inside Catalino Casino on Catalina Island off the coast of Southern California on Sept. 27.
Presented by the Catalina Film Institute, the King of Comedy trophy is given to a performer “who has mastered the craft of comedy and uses it to uplift, inspire, and bring joy, celebrating comedic excellence and the power of laughter to connect us all.” Past fest honorees and guests include Nicolas Cage, Jon Favreau, Stan Lee, Kevin Hart, Mira Sorvino, William H. Macy, Andy Garcia, Sharon Stone, Emmy Rossum, Richard Dreyfuss, Kate Bosworth and others.
Jeong’s credits include Knocked Up, Pineapple Express, Role Models, breakout turns as Mr. Chow in The Hangover trilogy and Señor Chang in Community, the stand-up special You Complete Me, Ho, Crazy Rich Asians, Fool’s Paradise, Ride Along 2, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Couples Retreat, Goosebumps 2, Tom & Jerry, Dr. Ken, The AfterParty, The Office, Entourage and Curb Your Enthusiasm, among others. He also has a cameo in a film that Catalina audiences know quite well, Step Brothers, which popularized the line “It’s the fucking Catalina Wine Mixer!”
