Mohit Suri shares if Ahaan Panday, Aneet Padda’s Saiyaara will return with a sequel

After the remarkable success of Saiyaara, starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, which was highly praised by both audiences and critics, speculations begun regarding the potential for the film to evolve into a franchise. In Bollywood, successful films frequently inspire sequels as producers seek to leverage their popularity. However, regarding Saiyaara, director Mohit Suri holds a different viewpoint, which might not align with the expectations of the fans.

During an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Mohit mentioned, “It is the producer’s call. I’ve had my fair share of sequels. I wish them all the best. But I think Adi believes if a film goes into becoming a classic, let us not ruin the magic by creating another sequel.”

Although Mohit does not entirely dismiss the possibility, his statements imply that the makers, particularly producer Aditya Chopra, are more inclined to preserve the film’s legacy than to potentially diminish its emotional resonance through a sequel.

Mohit has a history of directing sequels, including films such as Murder 2, Aashiqui 2, Ek Villain Returns, and Raaz: The Mystery Continues. However, not all of these sequels have achieved the same level of success as their original parts. While Murder 2 and Aashiqui 2 were very well-received, with the latter even beating the original in popularity, thanks to their music and emotional narratives, Ek Villain Returns and Raaz: The Mystery Continues gained more mixed reactions from both critics and audiences.

Saiyaara on its release achieved unexpected blockbuster status, featuring the debut performances of Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda. The film broke records, earning over ₹500 crore worldwide, hence becoming the highest-grossing Indian romantic film to date. Despite the absence of traditional promotional efforts, the film gained  popularity through audience reactions and a highly successful music album. The title song also made history by appearing on Billboard’s global charts. Saiyaara also gave rise to discussions within the industry, including debates regarding plagiarism allegations and the influence of star power versus the emergence of new talent. Its success, which was mostly driven by its emotional depth and organic appeal, redefined Bollywood debuts, showing that fresh storytelling and music can achieve great success without relying on established stars or heavy marketing campaigns. The film still continues to be recognized as the breakout hit of 2025.
