Exclusive: Vidya Balan Shares How Karan Johar Played Cupid in Her Love Story With Siddharth
Vidya Balan, an actress known for her powerful performances, recently shared a wholesome and humorous incident about how her husband, producer Siddharth Roy Kapur, came into her life. During an exclusive interview on In The Ring with Filmfare with Jitesh Pillai, Filmfare’s editor, Vidya revealed a heartwarming story involving her parents and an unexpected matchmaker, none other than filmmaker Karan Johar.
The story goes back to a time when Vidya was in her late 20s and her parents, like many, were getting concerned about her marital status. She recalled a particularly amusing moment when her father, out of what she described as frustration, talked about his plans to approach Karan Johar. Vidya recalled, “My father one day tells me I’m going to go to Karan Johar’s office and tell him and ask him if he knows any boy he can set you up with.” Her reaction was one of pure shock and a bit of embarrassment. “I was like, what? How bizarre. What do you think you are doing? I am your daughter, you can’t embarrass me like that.” She worried about what Karan would think, fearing she would come across as desperate.

While her father never actually went through with his plan, Vidya shared the surprising twist that it was indeed Karan Johar who ultimately played Cupid, bringing her and Siddharth together. She shared, “Guess who actually played Cupid? It was Karan.” This revelation has become a running joke in her family, with her father often reminding her, “See? I could have gone and asked him.”

This personal story indeed has gone on to become one to reminisce for Vidya and her family. Vidya was last seen in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, where she returned to her iconic role as Manjulika, a role she originally played in the first part which has become an iconic one in her filmography.
