New York Yankees Broadcasters Get Animated for Season 2 of YES Network Kids Show
Michael Kay might be best known for his signature “See ya!” home run call when he broadcasts New York Yankees games, but loyal YES viewers will get to see a whole other side of Kay later this month, in animated form.
Kay is among four YES Network talents that will join the voice cast of the animated kids show HexClad Presents Bronx Buds, which has been picked up for a second season, set to debut on the Gotham Sports app starting Aug. 9.
In the new season, Bronx Buds main characters Riv, Bash and Oscar are joined by their new YES Network “teammates” Kay, John Flaherty, Meredith Marakovits and Nancy Newman. In the new season, all four will have important roles: “Kay plays a hero who saves the Bronx Buds, Flaherty portrays a legendary baseball player while Marakovits and Newman are news reporters,” said YES in the logline. The new season of the animated baseball children’s series returns to follow the Bronx-based youth team, the Bronx Buds.
“I have always been told I’m somewhat cartoonish, and now I really am!” said Michael Kay. “The voice over process was really fascinating and the way I worked hand-in-hand with the creators was such a cool experience. Being part of this brings me back to my youthful days of watching the Flintstones and the Jetsons, but now I am armed with the knowledge of the hard work that goes into it all.”
The show provides viewers with life lessons, laughs and friendships as the characters tackle their goals on and off the baseball field. The hope is that it will create friendships, teach morals and promote teamwork amongst today’s youth. The show also hopes to pass down the love of baseball from one generation to the next.
YES expanded into kids and family animation with Bronx Buds a year ago, and has decided to continue exploring the genre.
Tzero Studios founders Justin Shenkarow and Tom Borowski will voice the other animated characters. Tzero Studios members have worked on other notable shows including SpongeBob SquarePants, Hey Arnold!, Beavis and Butthead and Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas.
All six episodes of the new season are around seven minutes in length, with new episodes releasing over the course of five Saturdays after August 9. Each episode has a unique challenge which the team works to overcome. HexClad, which is the official kitchenware partner of the Yankees and YES, is presenting sponsor of the show.
