Exclusive: Kajol Talks About Her Changing Perception of Love and Marriage

Bollywood actress Kajol recently marked 33 years in the industry and is also celebrating her 51st birthday today. Over the years, she has impressed the audience with terrific and diverse performances. Besides being a remarkable actress, she has also been serving couple goals with her long-term marriage to actor Ajay Devgn. During an exclusive conversation with Filmfare a couple of years back, Kajol opened up about her changing approach to marriage and her definition of love.

She admitted that the perception of marriage has changed completely and shared, “The perception has changed completely. It has also changed completely towards love. Earlier, our concept of love was that if he would write 10 letters to me, come to my door 15 times, or throw a stone at my window, then it was love. If such a thing were to happen in today’s time, you would go straight to the police station and report that he is a serial killer and a stalker. Reality has become big in our lives. That’s something that we all have to adjust to, especially in marriage. The films that are being shown to us are a reflection of what we think in today’s world.”

She then went on to explain that every woman wants a man like James Bond, but as one grows older, they realise that actual love lies in friendship. The actress continued, “Every girl would want James Bond. But at the end of the day, you are not going to marry James Bond. If you get married to James Bond, you will realise that he is never going to be faithful to you. As you grow older and go deeper into the relationship, you realise friendship is the base of a relationship. You have to become friends because if you don’t, you will become bitter enemies. In a relationship, both parties have to compromise, not just one. So I think that’s really what any relationship is about—working hard at it. You will have to work at every relationship. And you have to work on it every day. Especially your relationship with your partner that you hope is going to be for the rest of your life. But even that is a question mark these days. You never know whether it’s going to last your life.”
