Did You Know Ranbir Kapoor Rejected Kishore Kumar Biopic for Ramayana?

Ranbir Kapoor is gearing up for the release of Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana. The epic will release in two parts. The first part is scheduled to be release on Diwali 2026 while the second part will be released on Diwali 2027. However, director Anurag Basu has recently spilled the beans on a different project that Ranbir was supposed to be a part of. He was earlier linked to the Kishore Kumar biopic directed by Anurag Basu. Reports later suggested that the role eventually went to Aamir Khan.

Anurag Basu shared that he and Ranbir were eager to work together again, after Barfi and Jagga Jasoos. However, it couldn’t be possible due to other commitments. But while Ranbir was offered the Kishore Kumar biopic, he made the decision to work on Ramayana instead. While speaking to BBC News, Anurag said, “Haa hopefully. Hum dono toh koshish karte hi rehte hain. Ho nahi raha hai. Woh bhi kar raha hai kaafi saari filmein. (Yes, hopefully. Both of us keep trying, but it’s just not happening. He’s also working on quite a few films).”

Anurag added, “Ranbir ke paas choice tha life mein. Aur bechare ke paas wo choice itna mushkil tha uske liye. Kishore ya Ramayana. Kaunsa pehle shuru kare. Bohot tough choice tha uske liye. (Ranbir had a choice to make in life, and honestly, it was a really tough one for him — Kishore Kumar or Ramayana. Which one to start first? It was a very difficult decision.)” He also noted that the actor chose Ramayana after giving it some thought. “Aur usne fir Ramayana chuna. I think it was the right decision. (In the end, he chose Ramayana, and I think it was the right call),” he noted.
