Exclusive: Kajol Says Fame Is Just a Side Effect, Real Success Comes From Focus & Hard Work
In an exclusive chat with Jitesh Pillai on In The Ring with Filmfare, Kajol opened up about the real side of the film industry, one that’s far from the glitz and glamour we usually see.
Kajol said, “I’ve seen the way people work. Like, my mom and my dad for that matter. My dad was a producer, director. I’ve been on set. I’ve seen the reality behind the on-screen fluff. And the reality behind it is sometimes cruel. It’s hard work. It’s not easy at all.”

The actress, known for her honesty and strong opinions, shared how growing up around films gave her a deeper understanding of what goes on behind the scenes. She explained, “When you see that aspect of it… you’re automatically a little inured from the entire glamour parade.”
Kajol believes that one should always remain focused on their own journey. She added, “There is this much hard work involved to get you from point A to point B. You are much more focused on your road than you are on the side effects. Glamour and fame are the side effects of your success.”
Her grounded approach to her career reflects in her recent choices too. Kajol received wide praise for her good performances in Maa and Sarzameen. Both roles showed her range and depth as an actor. With Maa, she played an emotional role that involved protecting her daughter at any cost. In Sarzameen, her character was again a mother, conflicted between her husband and son’s clash.
Even after decades in the industry, Kajol continues to evolve, showing the audience that true success comes from staying committed to one’s path, and not getting distracted by the spotlight. Even in her illustrious career, she has done iconic films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Gupt, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, Fanaa, My Name Is Khan, etc which again displayed her range of doing diverse and different kinds of roles.
