Parineeta to Re-release in 8K to Mark 20 Years of Vidya Balan in The Industry
Parineeta, the classic romantic drama that marked the stunning debut of Vidya Balan, is returning to the big screen in a grand, restored 8K format to celebrate its 20th anniversary. PVR INOX has announced the re-release of this timeless gem on August 29, 2025, for a limited one-week theatrical run.
Directed by the late Pradeep Sarkar and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Parineeta was adapted from Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s 1914 Bengali novel and first released in 2005. With its vintage Kolkata charm, poetic visual style, and unforgettable music by Shantanu Moitra, the film won hearts and multiple awards. Now, two decades later, it’s returning in ultra-high-definition glory with restored visuals and 5.1 surround sound.
This re-release is also a tribute to Vidya Balan’s 20 years in cinema and the 50th anniversary of Vinod Chopra Films, which has become the first Indian production house to restore its entire film library in 8K. The restoration was done in collaboration with L’Immagine Ritrovata, an internationally acclaimed lab in Bologna, Italy.
Vidhu Vinod Chopra shared his excitement: “Parineeta is more than a film—it’s an emotion. In 8K, its magic only deepens.” Vidya Balan, who made a powerful debut as the gentle yet fiery Lalita, called the re-release “an emotional moment,” adding, “Every frame holds a piece of my heart. I hope the new generation discovers old-world love through it.”
Saif Ali Khan, who played Shekhar Rai, noted how the film “allowed me to explore a more restrained, elegant side of acting,” while Sanjay Dutt recalled it as “a beautiful project made with sincerity.” Niharika Bijli, Lead Strategist at PVR INOX, said, “Audiences today crave nostalgia on the big screen, and Parineeta is a perfect blend of love, class, and cultural richness.”
With lush cinematography, iconic locations across Kolkata, and a soundtrack that includes evergreen hits like Piyu Bole and Kasto Mazza, Parineeta is all set to charm fans old and new in theatres once more.
