Suniel Shetty Says Suhaag Raat Scene in Border Gave Him Tension Before Shoot

Suniel Shetty recently recalled one of the most unforgettable memories from his career while promoting Hunter Season 2. He opened up about shooting the romantic track To Chalun from his iconic film Border. In a podcast with Pinkvilla, he shared how nervous he was about filming it. “Suhaagraat sunke mujhe tension ho jata tha ki kaise shoot karenge. Kya karenge,” he said. But once director JP Dutta narrated the song to him, his doubts faded. “Jab JP Ji ne gana sunaya, I was very clear ki ek hi aadmi hai jo ye gana aise shoot kar sakta hai aur JP Ji ne hi shoot kiya waise. The most memorable song and shoot that I have ever done. Itni khoobsurati se unhone shoot kiya tha wo gana that is unbelievable,” Suniel said.

He also spoke about a moment on set when they were stuck while shooting a crucial scene. It was the part where a soldier leaves his wife behind and heads to the battlefield. Suniel shared, “Beech me ek shot me atak gaye the hum log ki jab fauji nikalta hai bahar wo apne pyaar ko kaise chhodega. Uski biwi ko kaise chhodega. Confuse the JP Ji discuss kar rahe the.” Just then, something unexpected gave them the answer. “Suddenly a MIG went on top and he looked up and he said that’s it,” he recalled.

That single moment shaped how the scene unfolded. Suniel added, “Sound daal diya aur main upar dekhta hu wo yaad dila deta hai ki war is on. The nation above anything else. And without looking back, he keeps going, and he goes into battle.” He called it one of the most powerful scenes he has ever shot, both emotionally and visually.

Amid all this, Suniel was also dealing with something personal. His daughter Athiya, who was just three years old back then, had a fever and had to be sent back. “Athiya mere saath thi tabhi, chhoti bachhi thi. She was 3 years old. She had a fever, and I had to send her back,” he said. Remembering that stressful night, he shared, “To shooting ke dauran, ghadi ghadi phone karna – pahuchi ki nahi. Usko jana tha Mumbai wo chali gayi Delhi because of the storm with full fever. To main wo raat kabhi bhulunga nahi. Till the time Athiya reached and then went to the doctor. Mana said everything is okay. JP Ji, mai, all worried about everything.”
