Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana budget to be Rs 4000 crore epic in 2 parts, not Rs 1600 crore as rumoured
The upcoming film Ramayana, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, is reportedly being produced with a huge budget of Rs 4000 crore, distributed across 2 parts. This enables the film to potentially become the most expensive Indian movie ever created. Initially, the film’s budget was estimated to be approximately Rs 1600 crore; however, a source familiar with the project has since confirmed that the ultimate cost is approaching Rs 4000 crore, hence establishing it as one of the most expensive films ever produced in India.
The source said, “The film is being mounted at an international level and by the time both films would be made, the budget would reach over Rs 4000 crore. The team is planning to have world-class VFX and special effects to give the best experience to the audiences.” Ramayana’s producer Namit Malhotra also spoke on a podcast with Prakhar Gupta where he confirmed that by the time the two parts of Ramayana release, the production costs may touch $500 million or Rs 4000 crore.

The film is reportedly a project with extensive visual effects, specially designed for an impressive IMAX experience. Also, it will incorporate AI dubbing technology, enabling audiences to enjoy the film in any regional language, which is a first-of-its-kind concept in Indian cinema. Prime Focus, which is led by producer Namit Malhotra, is leading the technical efforts to create a visually captivating experience.
Earlier this month, the creators had released a motion poster showing Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravana. Although the poster provides only animated glimpses of the main characters, the background music composed by Oscar winners Hans Zimmer and AR Rahman has certainly increased the excitement.

Ramayana boasts of an ensemble cast including Ranbir Kapoor portraying Lord Ram, Sai Pallavi as goddess Sita, and Yash as Ravana. The cast includes Sunny Deol, Vikrant Massey, Ravi Dubey, Lara Dutta, Indira Krishnan, Vivek Oberoi, and Arun Govil, among others, in important roles. The first part of the film will release during Diwali in 2026, with the second part slated for release on Diwali 2027.
