“There Must Be Truth to It” – Amaal Mallik Breaks Silence on Anu Malik Controversy

In a recent interview, music composer Amaal Mallik discussed his relationship with his uncle, Anu Malik, clarifying that they do not share a personal bond, especially after the sexual harassment allegations that emerged during the MeToo movement, and explaining his reasons for remaining silent on the matter.

“I didn’t talk or support Anu Malik when he was accused during the MeToo movement. It was not my concern because I don’t consider him my family. I was very embarrassed when he was accused of these things. We never had a relationship. But I think if so many people raised their voice against him, I believe there must be some truth to it. Why would people come and say it otherwise? There is no smoke without fire. Five people can’t talk against the same person.” 

Anu Malik faced allegations of inappropriate behaviour from multiple women during India’s MeToo movement. Amaal, who has worked with many female artists, said his father, Daboo Malik once expressed concern about Amaal facing similar accusations. “Once my dad asked me if I too will be dragged in this movement. I said, there is no chance. I can never be the person who will ask for physical favours in return of songs. All the girls worked with me have felt safe.” 

Regarding his relationship with his uncle, Amaal mentioned that he maintains a respectful distance, but they do not share a personal bond with each other. He said, “I am respectful towards him when I see him in public. But after knowing his wrongdoings, I am not in good terms with him. I don’t have any relationship with his family. I haven’t met them in years. I don’t attend parties. They were invited for Armaan’s wedding. They had come too. It is more like professional rivalry.“
