“My actors never complain about stress” – Anurag Basu backs Deepika Padukone’s 8 hour work-shift
The reported exit of Deepika Padukone from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit has initiated a discussion regarding working hours within the film industry. Numerous actors, including Sonakshi Sinha, Neha Dhupia, and Vikrant Massey, have expressed their support for the actress’s request for an eight-hour work shift. Also, in a recent interview, Anurag Basu has also expressed his backing of Deepika’s stance.
Regarding Deepika’s request for an eight-hour shift, Anurag responded saying, “I also don’t like long-hour shifts at work. My actors never complain about long hours or stress at work. So, I absolutely agree with what Deepika Padukone had to say. It’s a film; I never give my actors a chance to complain about this.”

He further elaborated on his working style, adding, “I want my actors to be very happy on set and know their character well. I don’t give too much information to them before the shoot begins. Let them discover their roles, and this is the method I have been following for ages.”
It was previously reported that Deepika Padukone might be cast alongside Prabhas in the upcoming action film Spirit, directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga. Following her exit from the project it was suggested that she had requested an eight-hour workday, a share of the film’s profits, and the option to avoid speaking her lines in Telugu, which reportedly did not align with the director’s preferences. Eventually, Triptii Dimri took on the role.
