Exclusive: John Abraham talks about social media and evolving viewer habits

John Abraham has been a prominent figure in Bollywood, recognized not only for his strong screen presence but also for his insightful perspectives and interesting views and opinions on different topics. In an episode of In The Ring with Filmfare, John shared his reasons for avoiding social media and shared his opinion on the transformations the audience has gone through in the last ten years.

John shared a statement of his that he had made almost a decade ago. “One day the virtual world will become the real world, and the real world will become the virtual one,” he said. Based on current digital trends, John believes that a shift has already begun. He also revealed his lack of personal engagement with social media platforms, including Instagram, and also said that he does not have them installed on his mobile phone. While his manager manages his official accounts, John does not feel a requirement for using social media much. “When I check it after a long time, I feel like nothing has progressed. In fact, it’s become worse than before,” he said.

He also discussed how films today are often made with the concern that the audience’s attention span may be quite limited, and they will lose interest too quickly. “We’re afraid they’ll pick up their phones in the middle of a scene, so we add loud background music just to keep them hooked,” he explained. However, John strongly believes that the audience, particularly the youngsters, possess much greater awareness and social consciousness than we give them credit for. To summarize, John advocated the necessity to be real storytellers to connect with the audience more and not take them for granted.
