“A lot of things happened which are beyond our control” – Diljit Dosanjh on Sardaar Ji 3 controversy
Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh addressed the controversy surrounding his film, Sardaar Ji 3, and the casting of Pakistani actor Hania Aamir. In a recent interview, he explained that the filming concluded in February, prior to the Pahalgam attack and the India-Pakistan conflict that followed.
Diljit stood by the producers’ choice to release the film internationally. He pointed out that a lot of things happened beyond their control and the situation was not in their hands. He voiced his support for the producers of Sardaar Ji 3, saying, “They know that there will be a loss because you’re removing an entire territory. Even when I signed the film, everything was fine. Now, the situation is not in our hands. So, if the producers want to release it abroad, I support them.”
Addressing the controversy, he stated, “When the film was made, everything was okay. We shot the film in February, and everything was fine back then. After that a lot of things happened., which are beyond our control. The producer decided that the film will not be released in India, so they can release it overseas. They have invested a lot of money, and when the film was being made, nothing like this was happening.”
Following the tragic Pahalgam attack on April 22, film associations put a ban on collaborations with Pakistani artists. On June 23, the release of Diljit’s Sardaar Ji 3’s trailer, featuring Pakistani actor Hania Aamir, was met with a flurry of negative reactions from the Indian audience.

Sonali Singh, Diljit’s manager has also come to his defence, sharing a post on Instagram titled, ‘Always Choosing Love Over Hate’ where she stood up for Diljit stating that the online backlash against him is disheartening and unfair. She praised Diljit for promoting love, unity, and kindness, and appealed for an end to the targeting and negativity.
