Farhan Akhtar Marks 21 Years of Lakshya, Reflects on Its Message of Finding Purpose
Actor and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar marked a special moment as his film Lakshyacompleted 21 years since its release. To mark the occasion, Farhan Akhtar shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, describing Lakshya as a story about finding purpose. The 2004 coming-of-age film, featuring Hrithik Roshan and Preity Zinta, remains a standout in Indian cinema for its strong storytelling and uplifting theme. Farhan posted a montage of memorable scenes from the film on Instagram, with the caption, “Celebrating 21 years of a story about finding purpose, one step at a time. #21YearsOfLakshya.”
Farhan Akhtar also tagged the film’s cast in his post, appreciating their role in shaping the journey of Lakshya. Released in 2004, the film, was a compelling coming-of-age war drama and marked Farhan’s second outing as a director. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and penned by renowned writer and lyricist Javed Akhtar, the film featured a stellar ensemble cast including Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, and Amitabh Bachchan.

Drawing inspiration from interactions with Indian Army officers and Kargil War veterans, Javed Akhtar penned a powerful story around Karan Shergill, a young man from an affluent Delhi family with no clear path in life. As the film progresses, Karan evolves into a brave and determined soldier, discovering his true self and a sense of purpose through his journey in the army. Lakshya continues to be praised for its moving depiction of self-discovery, patriotism, and the unwavering spirit of India’s armed forces.
The film, which hit theatres on 18 June 2004, also featured notable performances by Boman Irani, Om Puri, Lillete Dubey, Kushal Punjabi, Sharad Kapoor, Sushant Singh, and Parmeet Sethi.
Farhan Akhtar is currently prepping for the release of his next film, 120 Bahadur, an action drama that honours Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, PVC, and the brave soldiers of Charlie Company, 13 Kumaon Regiment. Set during the 1962 Indo-China War, the film is inspired by the heroic Battle of Rezang La, remembered for its extraordinary courage and sacrifice that left a lasting mark in India’s military history.
120 Bahadur is scheduled to release in theatres on November 21. 2025.
