Aaishvary Thackeray, grandson of Balasaheb Thackeray, is all set to make his acting debut in Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film Nishaanchi. The film, backed by Amazon MGM, is scheduled to release on September 19, 2025, and marks a bold move as Aaishvary steps out of his family’s political shadow and onto the big screen 

Aaishvary comes from one of Maharashtra’s most influential families. His grandfather, Balasaheb Thackeray, founded the Shiv Sena, a powerful regional political party. He is the son of Smita Thackeray and grew up immersed in politics. Despite this, he chose to pursue cinema over a political career.

Before debuting as an actor, Aaishvary honed his skills behind the camera. He worked as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani (2015) and spent years refining his craft. He maintains a low profile on social media, with around 11k Instagram followers and a handful of posts, showcasing his dance moves and fitness journey alongside snippets from his life.

Nishaanchi is described as a gritty drama focused on two brothers who pick drastically different life paths. The cast includes Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra . Anurag Kashyap, known for realistic and hard-hitting cinema, called this project a raw human emotions saga written in 2016, now finally finding a home with strong studio backing.

Aaishvary’s debut sets the stage for a new chapter in the Thackeray legacy. The move from regional politics to Bollywood reflects a widening ambition, following in the footsteps of other political heirs entering entertainment. His presence also ignites interest, thanks to past buzz connecting him to actress Alaya F, though both maintain the relationship was platonic.

Nishaanchi is Kashyap’s first film in several years aiming for a theatrical release. With a bold genre, strong storyline, and fresh faces, it’s shaping up to be a project that merges political heritage and cinematic exploration in a uniquely modern way.
