Netflix’s Tasmanian Crime Series ‘The Survivors’ Reveals Cast, First Look

Netflix‘s forthcoming Tasmania-set mystery series The Survivors, based on the bestselling book by Australian author Jane Harper, has revealed its key cast and a pair of first-look images. Showrun and co-written by Aussie screen veteran Tony Ayres (The Home Song Stories, The Slap), show will be released by Netflix later this year.

A crime-mystery mini-series set in a Tasmanian seaside town, The Suvivors explores the impact of unresolved grief. It is directed by Cherie Nowlan (La Brea, Clickbait) and Ben C. Lucas (Nautilus), and it was shot on location in Tasmania.

The show’s official summary reads: “Kieran Elliott’s life changed forever when three people died in the seaside town of Evelyn Bay. Fifteen years later, Kieran and his young family return home and are confronted by the past when a young woman is killed. Desperate for answers, the Evelyn Bay community is forced to uncover the mysteries that continue to haunt them.”

The key cast includes Charlie Vickers (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power), Yerin Ha (Bridgerton, Dune: Prophecy), Robyn Malcolm (After the Party), Damien Garvey (The Artful Dodger), Thom Green (the forthcoming Apple Cider Vinegar), George Mason (The Power of the Dog), Jessica De Gouw (The Couple Next Door), Miriama Smith (The Gone), Johnny Carr (Five Bedrooms), Martin Sacks (Irreverent), Julian Weeks (Savage River), Shannon Berry (The Wilds), Catherine McClements (Apple Cider Vinegar), and Don Hany (Strike Back).

The Survivors is produced by Tony Ayres Productions (Fires, Clickbait, Stateless), which is backed by Matchbox Pictures and Universal International Studios, a division of Universal Studio Group. Executive producers include Ayres, Nowlan, Andrea Denholm, Matt Vitins, and Jane Harper.

Ayres is joined in the writing team by Belinda Chayko (Fires), Christian White (Clickbait), Peter Templeman (Wanted,) and Alberto Di Troia (The Spooky Files). And the series will be produced by Andrew Walker (Deadloch, Rosehaven).

The Survivors adds to Netflix’s growing slate of originals from down under, following successes last year including the third and final season of Heartbreak High and the Aussie western Territory. Other titles from the country coming to the service this year include Son of a Donkey, a mini-series from YouTube stars Theodore and Nathan Saidden, aka Superwog, and the much anticipated true crime series Apple Cider Vinegar, inspired by the story of con-woman Belle Gibson.

The Survivors is supported by VicScreen through the Victorian Production Fund and the Victorian Digital Screen Rebate, with production support from Screen Tasmania.
